Short term medical insurance is temporary insurance primarily used by individuals and families to cover the catastrophic costs of unexpected medical bills.  It is used to fill gaps in coverage due to a change in employment or to cover the waiting period of a new plan.  It can last from one month to 365 days with some plans.
